How do you know you've
chosen the best solution for you business?
You prove it to yourself in
a duplicate no-risk emulation of your environment.
Verify performance and functionality without affecting
your production systems. At WPS we call this proof-of-concept
testing.
What is proof-of-concept
testing?
Proof-of-concept testing is
the process of determining whether a product or
solution meets all of the specifications, advertised
features, and promises that have been made about
it.
Proof-of-concept testing is
also a method of determining whether a product
or solution, even if it does meet the specifications,
successfully fits and functions in your environment
Thus, proof-of-concept testing applies just as
readily to a single piece of network hardware
or software, as it does to a complete system redesign.
Why use proof-of-concept
testing?
Today, businesses and industries
pour millions of dollars into their networks.
A generally wise investment as a sound, safe,
and efficient network infrastructure helps ensure
a business remains competitive and cost-efficient.
When introducing a product or
solution into an existing network infrastructure,
testing that product or solution for compatibility
before exposing the entire network and its users
to it can make all the difference when it comes
to a full roll-out. But many businesses simply
don't have the ability to duplicate the network
infrastructure and perform that needed testing.
WPS's proof-of-concept testing can help avoid
the disastrous results that introducing a product
or solution on faith alone can have. Reasonable
choice when the only other alternative is to shoulder
the massive costs.
Before you introduce a new product
or solution into an existing network, consider
letting WPS help you. With proof-of-concept testing
run before hand, you can:
- Ensure that the new product
won't disrupt daily activity, and that it performs
and behaves as expected.
- Verify the product is and
does everything the manufacturer claims it does
- Validate, prove, or produce
a deployment plan that will work for the company
- Seek out, identify, and correct
any potential problems so there are no surprises
during roll-out
- Convince others that the
product you are proposing is the right solution
for their needs and requirements
- Win the bid over the competition
(whether internal or external) by proving you
have the only solution tested and qualified
to function properly and smoothly within the
network
- Reduce and even eliminate
the other risks (such as the loss of your job
or reputation) associated with introducing a
new product into an existing network
- Offer those affected by the
change the opportunity to work and experiment
with the product at virtually no risk to you,
them, or the network
- Provide a level of customer
service that others just can't offer
How does proof-of-concept
testing work?
While each situation is somewhat
unique and requires a certain amount of customizing,
the basic proof-of-concept test involves the following:
- Identifying the environment
and other related factors, such as problems
to be solved, for which the solution is proposed
- Setting up a testing environment
capable of emulating the real environment
- Introducing the proposed
solution into the emulated environment
- Putting the solution through
a series of pre-defined tests designed to find
the weaknesses and problems, and to identify
corrections and solutions
- Re-testing, if needed,
once changes or corrections are made Documenting
results, processes, concerns, and advice
